What I stand for…

We are a growing community, not just a tourism destination. A balance between our local economy and community needs is possible if we vote for leaders with diverse lived experiences who will speak for everyone who lives here.

Prioritizing economic practices that support long-term affordability for residents through long-term sustainable planning of projects related to housing, waste management and energy.
Active participation and inclusive decision-making within the community is key. Ensuring we are engaging youth, new comers, families, seniors, as well as marginalized voices is an important part of building a strong community.
Strengthening social services in Wasaga Beach through regional and provincial partnerships. (Addressing access to childcare, doctors and issues related to poverty, housing, food insecurity, mental health and addictions.)
Ensuring all municipal processes and decisions are open, accountable, and understood by the public.

A Letter to Voters,

I moved here eight years ago to be close to family and take advantage of the beautiful natural settings surrounding the town. We spent so much time enjoying walks through Blueberry Trails, biking to the beach and playing on the shores of Georgian Bay together. I love it so much that I signed up for our Healthy Community Advisory Committee. It was a wonderful experience and gave me a taste of Municipal government and what can be achieved there.

My professional background is in education where I spent most of my career working with our most vulnerable and at-risk students. This experience opened my eyes to the realities of so many families around Ontario. I started teach because I wanted to make connections with and be a caring adult for students who were falling through the cracks. I wanted to make a difference.

With so many changes taking place, I feel that this is my time to step up and become a voice for the people and environment who live and struggle in our community. I'm excited to make a difference in a new way, a bigger way. Being a town councilor means making real life decisions that impact the lives of everyone who lives here. The role needs to be taken seriously and approached with transparency, accountability, and critical analysis to ensure each decision made has been considered through diverse lenses. This is what I will bring as your councilor.

Working for the town we love…

Municipalities are responsible for zoning and planning, which means our town council is in a position of power when it comes to addressing the housing crisis. There seems to be a lot of incomplete developments with new ones popping up around town, despite concerns from town members speaking out about environmental issues as well as affordability. There are so many creative ways to ensure people are safe and secure, but we are choosing to recycle old systems for developing and building housing that is based on developer desires rather than the actual needs of the community.
We must take proactive steps to address the housing crisis through strong municipal leadership and partnership:
- Strategic Partnerships: Work with organizations like ONPHA to advance local housing strategies and growth planning.
- Policy & Land Use: Leverage land use planning, zoning, and Official Plans to prioritize affordable development, including co-operative builds.
- Infrastructure & Resource Management: Utilize development charges, fees, incentives, and Community Improvement Plans effectively.
- Surplus Land: Identify and repurpose municipal surplus land to support community housing needs.

The Housing Crisis

Since the last election, our community has changed and grown. Wasaga Beach is diverse and the needs of the community has grown. Access to family doctors is an issue the town has been work towards and those efforts much continue. We're also experiencing lack of childcare and food insecurities putting pressure on our food banks.
Services to address these issues are available through Simcoe County, an those partnership should be made stronger to ensure everyone has access to the services they need:
- Social and Community Investment Fund (SCIF): Can collaborate on delivering targeted, evidence-informed programs to reduce poverty and support those who are unhoused in our community. Simcoe County Housing.
- Supporting Newcomers: I will actively work with the Local Immigration Partnership Council to implement the Community Settlement Strategy.
- Children & Youth Services: I am focused on continuing and building on the Early Learning and Childcare Growth Strategy to ensure more $10 Day Daycare. I am also focused on encouraging the participation of youth as activated voices and advisors with our council through an advisory committee and co-operative learning.
- Accessibility and Safe Spaces: I am commitment to continuing and building an accessible community via the Accessibility Advisory Committee. We need to ensure marginalized voices are heard and I am committed to working with organizations such as Making Change Simcoe County, Safer Spaces and Friendship Centres close within our region.

Community Services

Innovative Economic Growth

There is a lot of focus on Beach One at the moment. I care deeply about our environment; we live on unique ecosystems and endangered habitats. The lands we live on must be protected. I think there are ways to develop our town without relying on impacting our environment for three months of tourism. Tourism is one contributor to our economy, and I believe we can look to the future for sustainable and circular economic growth.
I believe we can be a leader in economic growth for other municipalities by approached our economy through new perspectives:
- Modernizing Systems: Building relationships and exploring the possibilities of town owned services that will lower utility costs and bring jobs to the town.
- Policy Innovation: Implementing new by-laws and incentives for affordable and sustainable housing developments, waste management, and the protection of our sand dunes and wildlife.
- Social Enterprise Focus: Economic development needs to prioritize and incentivise initiatives and business that actively improve the quality of life for residents.
- Cyclical Economy: Supporting strong, locally-owned businesses and town owned services that keep resources within the community.
- Sustainable Choices: Using our power to choose developers and business support models that benefit the residents who live and work here.

Transparent & Accountable Council

Politics should not give people the "ick". Being part of town council is a serious role that requires diligence and critical analysis. The decisions the council make need to address issues that are impacting the people who live in Wasaga Beach. Every issue or idea needs to be approached with curiosity, researched and debated with purpose and offer a clear, transparent reason for the final decision. Our municipal government represents you and your interests.
If elected I will approach the role with a deep sense of responsibility, not to an agenda for the town, but to the individuals who are impacted by the decisions being made on their behalf. It is my job to represent you and your interests.
- Inquiry-Based Leadership: I will be bringing my experience as an educator to the council table—using the inquiry process to ask the right questions, gather diverse perspectives, and analyze problems thoroughly.
- Holistic Decision Making: I will be ensuring that all decisions account for the lived realities of families dealing with food insecurity, housing instability, addictions, and mental health issues.
- Accountability: I will approach every issue with a focus on accountability and inclusion: Whose voices are being heard and accommodated, and whose are not? How can I ensure that council decisions are clearly communicated and open for feedback from the town?
